Christmas 2009

I cannot believe how fast Christmas 2009 came and went! The weather sure caused trouble for people in the Midwest, but we still had a wonderful Christmas!

The weekend before Christmas we celebrated our Christmas here at our house. The girls loved opening presents and they surprised us with some presents too. Santa came early to Ankeny and they both had a great time putting out cookies, milk, and carrots. They loved opening their stockings and presents that Santa left for them.

Alana was off preschool and Steve was heading out of town for work that Monday, so the girls and I decided we should just head up to Humboldt on Monday before the weather got bad. I am so happy we made that decision!!!

We went over to our good friends Jen and Lance's house that Wednesday night. It was so fun to see them and to see the kids. I think all the kids had a great time playing. It's so fun to watch the girls play. Paige, Mia, and Alana really remind me of Carissa, Jen, and me when we were little. Paige was giving Alana and Mia back massages and it just totally reminded me of something Carissa would have been in charge of and Jen and I would have been her clients. I really hope they will have just as many great memories together as we have!

Thursday was Christmas Eve and the weather kept getting worse. Our plan was to spend Christmas Eve out at Ted and Joans, like we have the last couple years and Christmas Day with Mom and Dad. Carissa and Matt were supposed to arrive on Christmas Day, but due to the weather they ended up coming Christmas Eve Day. They had spent one night in St. Peter with Matt's family and his mom thought they should get on the road if they were wanting to make it to Humboldt. We all felt bad they had to cut their holiday short with his family, but we were all so excited. It just wouldn't feel the same if they hadn't made it home!!

We all headed out to Ted and Joan's that afternoon. They usually have a house-full for Christmas Eve but the weather messed up alot of plans and we were the only ones who made it there. The girls loved spending time with Grandma and Grandpa Malo and we all still had a great Christmas. We had a great meal and enjoyed opening presents, playing, and visiting.

We woke up Christmas morning and it was still snowing. We headed into Humboldt around lunch time to celebrate Christmas with my family. We had Christmas dinner late in the day and then went out and opened presents. The girls had a lot of fun again and we all got alot of great things! Brynn didn't enjoy opening presents as much as I thought she would this year. Alana loved every second of it, but Brynn would open one and then would want Alana to open some for her. It was cute.

That night the girls got to get cookies, milk, and carrots ready again as Santa was coming there that night. They were excited when they went to bed and loved waking up to see Santa did come! They opened more presents and stockings.

After we picked up the mess it was time to get into BIRTHDAY PARTY mode!!! Brynn's birthday party was that afternoon at 4:00 pm.
